As caregivers, learn how to navigate PTSD, Substance abuse and Dementia. DC15 1.0 Nurse, SW, NHA Mental health and Dementia-When Worlds Collide To effectively help a person living with dementia and a mental illness you need to understand signs and symptoms of both, treatment options and the dynamics of caring for those with a dual diagnosis. DC16 1.0 Nurse, SW, NHA Actions and Reactions: Taking the Guesswork out of Behaviors. When we know that behaviors are a form of communication, our reactions to these behaviors should be a perfect scenario and behaviors should decline. But we know in real life this will not always happen. After review of behaviors and our reactions to those, we will delve into 2 case scenarios where we will have to solve the problems and refine your deescalating skills! DC17 1.0 Nurse, SW, NHA Working with Aggressive Behaviors and Dementia Learn about common behaviors that occur with dementia, why they occur, and how to work with these behaviors. Discuss, practical approaches, and prevention of behaviors. De-escalation techniques will be discussed, how to do a behavioral assessment, and the importance of a follow up discussion after the behavioral event occurred. This program will discuss changes in communication and how that affects someone living with dementia. Learn how to identify triggers, internal and external, and the importance of overreacting to these behaviors.
