Veterans Assistance Commission This organization is operated by and for Veterans. The Commission provides needed interim and/or emergency financial assistance to Honorably Discharged Military Veterans and their families for basic living expenses. Veterans Assistance Commission of McHenry County The Veterans Assistance Commission (VAC) has accredited Veterans Service Officers authorized by the VA to present and prosecute VA Disability Claims, Aid and Attendance Claims and Veterans ALS Claims. The VAC also assists with VA Healthcare enrollment, as well as other veterans-specific federal, state, and local programs. The VAC operates a van to take VA patients from McHenry County to the Lovell Federal Health Care Center. The VAC provides low income McHenry County Veterans or surviving spouses with Veterans Financial Assistance as well as limited emergency assistance, and family caregiver assistance. McHenry County Veterans who are unable to come to the VAC office due to a disability or work schedule, may make an appointment to meet with a Veterans Service Officer off site. The VAC is available to provide VA Benefit presentations to clubs and agencies. Please call for more information. *See ad on page 183

Veterans may be eligible to receive care from a community provider when VA cannot provide the care needed. Eligibility requirements apply. Community care must be first authorized by VA before a Veteran can receive care from a community provider.
