If you planned well, you may have built up your nest egg to live comfortably for the rest of your life. Income and assets offer a wide variety of options for living in a senior community. Most senior communities are private pay or may accept long-term care insurance. If you have a limited income, you can look at affordable senior apartments, independent living, supportive living facilities, or skilled nursing facilities. Contact Elderwerks to help you navigate your personal options. Should you stay or should you move? That’s a personal decision that you need to make. Make sure you analyze your situation annually so that you can prepare for future needs. This decision should not be emotional, but be based on your situation including current health, physical limitations, activities you’d like to continue doing, maintenance and safety of the home, and socialization.

Change is hard for most people, but it’s even more difficult when someone thinks they are losing their independence if they move. Based on our experience that’s the last thing an independent senior should be thinking about. Quality of life is the most important aspect of aging. To remain independent you must be healthy, engaged, and financially sound. Continue to exercise at your own pace. Walking, riding a bike, working out at the gym, or any other activity that helps you retain your muscles. Your core is important for balance, so try to do activities to build your core. Elderwerks has many virtual exercise classes available as a group, and on our YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/@ ElderwerksES Socialization makes a huge impact on a person’s happiness. Studies show years of life expectancy are lost with a lack of socialization. Experts say that lack of socialization is equivalent to smoking 14 packs of cigarettes per day. Moving does not mean you immediately lose your independence, memories, family, or friends. Do what’s necessary to have a happy, healthy life today, even if it’s not where you’re currently living.
