Rental Housing Support Program www.ihda.org/rental-housing A state funded rental assistance program that provides subsidies to tenants living in RHS developments across Illinois. Basic Eligibility Requirements: • household income must be at or below 30 percent of the area median income. • tenant must be able to contribute approximately 30 percent of their income to rent • tenant cannot be receiving other rental assistance such as Section 8 subsidies To apply, tenants must contact their local administering agency funded by IHDA to check availability and to apply. Note for Chicago renters: The City of Chicago administers its own version of the Rental Housing Support Program. There are 2 types: Project-based – Assistance is tied to the physical unit. Tenant pays 30% of adjusted gross income towards rent. Tenant-based – Assistance is applied to the person, not the apartment. A voucher is given and may be used at any apartment that meets standards and regulations. Landlord must be willing to accept the voucher. Tenant pays 30% of income towards rent.
