Travel Care & Logistics, Inc. Assists transporting elderly parents in their travels. Cindy L. Schaefer, M.S., R.N., A.P.N. 847-681-1400 DRIVING EVALUATION PROGRAMS These types of programs typically include 2 parts - part one is in an office or clinic, part two is behind the wheel of a car. The evaluation done in the office or clinic includes the examination of the physical, visual and mental abilities required for safe driving. The on-road evaluation identifies an older driver’s strengths and weaknesses and ways to keep driving safely. The information learned from both parts of the evaluation will be shared with the client. They will be made aware if they are safe to drive, not safe to drive, or would benefit from some additional training. Discussion regarding adaptive equipment, restricted driving or alternate transportation may also be addressed. To Find a driver evaluation program near you, you can check with your local hospital, they may be able to provide you with information on Occupational Therapy driver rehabilitation specialists, programs sponsored by your county or city office on aging, VA and other rehab facilities, your state’s bureau or dept. of motor vehicles or motor vehicle administration, which may have special programs or special licensing options.
